During this year I have learned a lot of things in math, language arts, social studies, science, band, practical arts, french, computer and health. This page will showcase some of the work I have done this year.
Two things I am good at are multiplying fractions and making definition cards.
Two things I need to improve on are writing more neatly when it comes to my work and notes. Another thing I need to improve on is studying for tests.
My goal for the next 6 weeks of school are to get my grades up higher.

In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:
I really like the way your pictures looked they were really neat and nice. I also liked how you taught me some of your math work. Helping you do your homework, and help you study more affectedly.
Math
Term 1 Reflection
During term one we learned about ratio, rate and proportional reasoning, we also learned about square numbers, square roots and Pythagoras. During the first math classes we learned how to use Math Information (MI), Outrageous Answer (OA), and Simple Sentence (SS) to help us with the math problems. Then we learned about ratio, rate, and proportion. At the end of the unit we had to do make a video about two of those words. We had to take a Sesame Street video and make it math related. I was in a group with Maya and Meldrick. Next we learned about square numbers, square roots and the Pythagorean theorem. When we first started to learn about it I didn’t get it, but over time I started to get it. During the whole term we had to do 1 blog, each blog cycle.

In term 2 we learned about percents, surface area, and volume. Out of those 3, I think I did really well with volume. Because it was the easiest one we learned about this term. And when we started learning about it I had no trouble understanding it.The thing I had trouble with the most this term were percents, because when we started learning about percents, I didn’t really get how to convert the fraction into a percent, or how to convert the decimal into a fraction. And I got really confused the first few classes. I will do better this term by finishing my textbook work and reviewing it before each test or quiz. And I will try to participate more in class. And if i don’t get what we are doing I will ask for help. When we were learning about percents I learned that percents are out of 100, that decimals are out of 1, how to convert fractions into decimals and percents, and how to find the tax price. When we learned about surface area I learned how to find the area of a cylinder, rectangular prism, and a triangular prism. I also learned a lot of formulas that helped me find the areas. For volume I learned how to find the volume of a cylinder and rectangular and triangular prism.

GRADE EIGHT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT- PORTFOLIO REFLECTION
TASK/INTENT/CRITERIA
Throughout the year I have completed assignments based on Assessment for Learning practices. The learning process has followed the three key components.
Subject: English Language Arts_
Topic: Short Story “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes_
TASK : What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to compose a friendly letter using information from a short story.
INTENT : Why am I completing this assignment?
There are several reasons I am doing this writing assignment. First I learned the elements of a short story and I learned to identify them in a our story. Next, we learned the components to write in a friendly letter format. Then we applied specific story details and wrote in the first person as if we were a character in the story.
CRITERIA : How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completely
this assignment? · Use proper Friendly letter format referring to letter frame · Compose the rough copy letter using specific details from the short story and write the letter from the perspective of one of the main characters in the story · Remember to use appropriate tone and audience for the letter · Complete all steps in the writing process as set out in the assignment directions
NEXT STEPS : Upon completion of this assignment I can now · I can now identify elements of a short story.
My topic for two minutes to make a difference is Animal Abuse/Cruelty. We were to come up with 5 big questions, some of my questions were - Which animals are the most abused, and which country abuses these animals the most? Another one of my questions were - What types of jobs or roles are animals put in to be the most endangered of being abused? Then I wanted to know - What type of abused is the most commonly used on animals? Another question that I asked was - What kinds of actions can we do in Winnipeg to help these animals? And my last question was - What are some reasons that make or cause a person to abuse an animal? The rough copy for this project is due on May 11, 2011. But the whole project is due on May 28.
